The Philadelphia Semiconductor index advanced 1.7%.

In corporate news, Nvidia ( NVDA ) is likely to post strong fiscal Q4 results, despite some concerns that have lingered since its previous quarterly report, UBS Securities said. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares added 2.6%.

Apple ( AAPL ) iPhone sales slumped 18% in Q4, Bloomberg reported, citing an independent research firm. Apple ( AAPL ) shares fell 3.7%.
