The Philadelphia Semiconductor index added 1.3%.
In corporate news, Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( HPE ) shares climbed 1.9% following its fiscal Q3 results. The company also raised its fiscal 2025 non-GAAP EPS guidance.
Ciena (CIEN) shares surged past 20% after the company reported better-than-expected fiscal Q3 results on Thursday. The networking systems and software company also issued an upbeat revenue outlook for the ongoing fiscal quarter.
Microsoft ( MSFT ) will likely avoid a potentially large antitrust penalty as EU regulators will accept its offer to separate its Teams collaboration platform from its Office packages, Bloomberg reported. Microsoft ( MSFT ) shares rose 0.3%.
Texas Instruments ( TXN ) shares fell 3.8% after Chief Financial Officer Rafael Lizardi reportedly said the company's recovery is not happening with the velocity that some have anticipated.
