01:56 PM EDT, 09/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were higher Thursday afternoon, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) up 0.9% and the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) climbing 3%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor index rose 2.3%.
In corporate news, Micron Technology ( MU ) shares jumped nearly 14% in recent Thursday trading after it reported fiscal Q4 non-GAAP earnings late Wednesday of $1.18 per diluted share, swinging from a loss of $1.07 a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter ended Aug. 29 increased to $7.75 billion from $4.01 billion a year earlier.
Super Micro Computer ( SMCI ) shares tumbled more than 13% after the Wall Street Journal reported the company is being probed by the US Department of Justice over accusations of accounting violations made by a former employee.
Automatic Data Processing (ADP) shares declined 0.2%. The company is in advanced talks to buy WorkForce Software for $1.2 billion from its backers including Elliott Investment Management and Insight Partners, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
