01:52 PM EDT, 09/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were higher Thursday afternoon, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) up 0.3% and the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) adding 0.9%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor index increased 0.7%.
In corporate news, Micron Technology ( MU ) shares jumped past 9%. Citigroup raised its price target to $175 from $150 while keeping its buy rating.
The US Federal Trade Commission said Thursday it is issuing orders to Alphabet (GOOG), Meta Platforms ( META ) , Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, and other AI chatbot operators, seeking to know what steps the companies have taken to evaluate the safety of their AI chatbots for children and teens. Alphabet shares were rising 0.4%, Meta was up 0.2%, and Microsoft ( MSFT ) was fractionally higher.
Opendoor Technologies ( OPEN ) shares surged 61% after the firm named Kaz Nejatian as chief executive officer and a board member. Nejatian was most recently chief operating officer of Shopify (SHOP).
