The Philadelphia Semiconductor index retreated 0.2%.

In corporate news, STMicroelectronics ( STM ) shares sank more than 15% after the company reported a year-over-year drop in its fiscal Q2 earnings.

Meta Platforms ( META ) will soon get its first EU antitrust fine for integrating its Marketplace classified ads service with its Facebook social network, Reuters reported Thursday. Meta shares were shedding 0.9%.

International Business Machine's (IBM) Q2 earnings unexpectedly increased as momentum in software propelled consolidated revenue above Wall Street's estimates. Its shares popped 4.3%.

ServiceNow ( NOW ) shares surged 14% in recent trading after several price target lifts, a day after it reported strong Q2 earnings and revenue that came in ahead of market expectations.
