The Philadelphia Semiconductor index added 0.6%.
In corporate news, Nvidia ( NVDA ) is collaborating with tech companies and the US Department of Energy's national labs to develop seven AI supercomputers. The chipmaker is also working with Uber (UBER) to build an autonomous mobility network and with Palantir (PLTR) to develop a unified AI platform. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares rose 5%.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) plans to make a $1 billion equity investment in Nokia ( NOK ) for a 2.9% stake in the Finnish company. Nokia ( NOK ) shares jumped 23%.
Substrate, a US startup backed by venture capitalist Peter Thiel, has developed a new chipmaking machine to challenge the dominance of ASML ( ASML ) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) , Bloomberg reported. ASML ( ASML ) shares fell 0.7%, and Taiwan Semiconductor rose 1.1%.
