Sector Update: Tech Stocks Mixed Late Afternoon

03:49 PM EDT, 03/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks were mixed late Tuesday afternoon, with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) down 0.5% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) rising 2%.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor index added 1.3%.

In corporate news, Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is close to raising $10 billion from venture investors, including MGX, Coatue Management, and Thrive Capital, in a funding round at a $730 billion valuation, Bloomberg reported. Microsoft ( MSFT ) was down 2.5%.

Apple ( AAPL ) is testing a new "Ask Siri" feature and a standalone app for the voice assistant for the iOS 27 and macOS27 operating systems, Bloomberg reported. Apple ( AAPL ) shares were little changed.

Amazon's ( AMZN ) Amazon Web Services is accelerating the development of AI to automate tasks in its sales, business development and other areas where it recently laid off hundreds of workers, The Information reported. Amazon ( AMZN ) shares were falling 1.4%.

Alibaba ( BABA ) has introduced a central processing unit chip called the XuanTie C950 that has been designed to handle multi-step tasks carried out by AI agents, CNBC reported Tuesday. Alibaba ( BABA ) shares were shedding 0.4%.
