The Philadelphia Semiconductor index rose 1.1%.
In corporate news, Coupang ( CPNG ) was slapped on Thursday with a fine of 140 billion won ($102 million) by South Korea's antitrust agency for allegedly engaging in unfair product promotion practices, multiple Korean news outlets reported. Its shares tumbled past 5%.
Broadcom ( AVGO ) surged 12.3% after it reported an increase in fiscal Q2 earnings and sales while raising its revenue guidance for the full financial year.
Spotify ( SPOT ) shares fell 3.3% in recent trading, a day after a songwriters' trade association filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission challenging the music-streaming service's "bundled" audiobook-and-music offering that allegedly led to reduced music royalties.
