Sustained buying in bank, metal and realty stocks and strong show of support in other sectors amid positive global cues pushed equity indices to advance higher on Friday.

The Sensex was trading at 37,954.50, higher by 291 points at 11.48 am, while the NSE Nifty 50 surged near all-time higher levels to trade at 1,476.55. The 30-share index had opened at 37,898 and so far has ranged between a high of 37,982 and a low of 37,840. The 50-share NSE index has seen a high of 11,480 and a low of 11,431, after starting at 11,437.
Among Sensex gainers, Vedanta topped with 3.24 percent surge, followed by Yes Bank, Tata Steel, Kotak Bank, all trading higher more than 2 percent. ITC is higher by 1.96 percent, while index heavyweight Reliance has also posted gains of a percent so far.
Shares of Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Wipro, Power Grid, Bajaj Auto, HDFC were trading weak by up to 1.09 percent.
Grasim led with 4.31 percent gains on the NSE, trailed by Yes Bank at 3.01 percent. Shares of Lupin, Tata Steel, Vedanta gained by up to 2.78 percent.
GAIL has declined the most on the NSE by 2.09 percent. Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Power Grid, Wipro were other laggards.
Only seven stocks declined against 43 advances on the NSE index.
Midcaps have joined the rally with the Nifty MidCap rising by 0.85 percent. BSE MidCap was higher by 0.73 percent.
All Nifty sectoral indices were in the greeen with metal, PVT Bank, pharma, FMCG posting gains by up to 1.91 percent. Nifty Bank was 0.95 percent up.
