Indian equity markets on Monday extended losses with the NSE Nifty 50 trading below the 10,800 mark in pre-noon trade. At 11.30 am, the benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex was trading lower by 71.22 points, or 0.20 percent, to 35,618.38.

The broader 50-share NSE Nifty 50 fell 24.20 points, or 0.22% to 10,797.65. BSE MidCap and SmallCap were also trading flat.
BSE IT, healthcare, tech and metal are leading the gains among sectoral indices, while auto, energy, power, oil and gas are down.
PNB Housing Finance, Infosys, Vedanta, Sun Pharma and Hindustan Unilever are top gainers on the BSE, while Tata Motors, ICICI Bank shares fell. The pharmaceutical stocks are trading higher with Abbott India shares touching 52-week high.
The stock has gained 40% year-to-date and was trading at Rs 7626.05 at 11:09 am. AstraZeneca was at 52-week high with 29% gain year-to-date (YTD). Pfizer up 27% YTD, GSK Pharma up 12% YTD and Merck Up 100% YTD.
All major Nifty sectoral Indices were trading in the red, with major exceptions being the IT, metal, and pharma which were higher by 0.74 percent, 0.35 percent, 0.40 percent respectively at 11:38 am. Nifty Pharma gained as much as 1.16 percent to 9,469.90, its highest since 31 January.
In the morning trade, the markets had opened in the red, although the Nifty 50 opened above 10,800 mark. The Sensex was down at 35,668.80, and the Nifty was at 10,814.
The Indian rupee opened at 67.99 against the US dollar on Monday, while the 10-year bond yield was trading at 7.807% compared to its previous close of 7.820%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions. At 11:40 am, the rupee was trading at 68.145.
Asian markets continue to trade weak weighed on by lingering concerns about escalating trade friction between the US and China. A report in the Wall Street Journal that US President Donald Trump plans to bar many Chinese companies from investing in US technology firms and block additional technology exports to China added to the weak sentiment across Asian markets.
