Sensex, Nifty trade higher led by metal, auto, realty stocks

After opening on a flat note, Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 rose during the afternoon trade on Monday on the back of gains posted by metal, auto and realty stocks. At 12:40 PM, Sensex was up by 121.67 points at 38,888.78 and Nifty was up about 38.95 points at 11,682.40.

The Nifty midcap and smallcap indices were over 0.5 percent. Among sectoral indices, only pharma sector was in the red falling 0.42 percent.

Among Nifty 50 stocks, Tata Motors remained the top gainer, which has been rising for two weeks now. Other top gainers include Coal India, Tata Steel, TCS and Hindalco. On the other hand, the top losers were Infosys, Sun Pharma, Indian Oil, BPCL and Bharti Infratel.

Meanwhile, among Sensex companies, top gainers were Tata Motors, Coal India, Tata Steel, TCS and Hero Motocorp, while top losers were Infosys, Sun Pharma, ONGC, Bharti Airtel and HDFC.

Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.43 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite was up 1.8 percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 1 percent. Asian markets cheered healthy gains after stronger-than-expected China data.

Customs data showed that March exports rose 14.2 percent YoY v/s 7.3 percent gain as prediction. Encouraging developments between US and China is also boosting positive sentiment.
