Jonathan Barratt, chief information officer, Probis Securities, said the speculation of trade war is always a concern for the commodity market.

“The picture that we are seeing out of China is the one that is slowing,” Barratt said.

"Iron ore has held up remarkably well in the face of the base metal markets under a lot of pressure,” he added.
