07:29 AM EDT, 06/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures pointed higher and oil prices dropped before the open Tuesday as markets reacted to an apparent US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran, even though the former accused the latter of violating the agreement.
The S&P 500 rose 0.8%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.7% and the Nasdaq added 1% in premarket activity. The indexes finished the previous trading session in the green, with the S&P 500 snapping a three-day losing streak.
"The ceasefire is now in effect," Trump said in an early Tuesday post on Truth Social. "Please do not violate it!" The post came several hours after Trump said on the social media platform that a "complete and total" ceasefire was agreed between Israel and Iran to end their 12-day war.
However, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of breaching the agreement by launching missiles towards the country, according to CBS News. "I have instructed the (Israel Defense Forces), in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intense activity of attacking Tehran to thwart regime targets and terrorist infrastructures," CBS said, citing a Tuesday statement from Katz.
Iran denied it fired missiles at Israel after the ceasefire took effect, state media reported. Trump issued a warning on social media to Israel to not drop their bombs, saying it would be a "major violation" of the truce.
On Monday, Iran fired missiles toward US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, in response to recent American airstrikes that targeted Tehran's nuclear facilities, according to multiple media publications.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil and Brent declined nearly 3% each to $66.44 and $69.34 a barrel, respectively, before the opening bell.
Elsewhere, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak before the House Financial Services Committee at 10 am ET, with investors set to monitor his remarks for any clues on monetary policy. The Fed kept its policy rate unchanged for a fourth straight meeting last week.
"No inflation, great economy -- we should be at least two to three points lower," Trump said on Truth Social on Tuesday. He has repeatedly called for the central bank to lower rates.
Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman said Monday she would support lowering interest rates as soon as next month provided that inflationary pressures remain "contained." Fed Governor Michael Barr is also set to speak Tuesday, along with Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, New York Fed President John Williams and Boston Fed President Susan Collins.
Treasury yields were pointing higher premarket, with the two-year rate up about one basis point to 3.87% and the 10-year rate rising 1.4 basis points to 4.34%.
The Case-Shiller Home Price Index and the Federal Housing Finance Agency House Price Index, both for April, post at 9 am. The Conference Board's consumer confidence report and the Richmond Fed manufacturing index, both for June, are also due on Tuesday.
TD Synnex ( SNX ) reports its latest financial results before the bell, while parcel delivery giant FedEx ( FDX ) posts earnings after the markets close.
Hims & Hers Health ( HIMS ) rebounded nearly 2% after dropping 35% at the close of Monday's session. Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) rose 2.4% while Tesla (TSLA) increased 2.3%.
Gold moved down 1.6% to $3,341 per troy ounce, while bitcoin advanced 2.3% to $105,329.
