07:42 AM EDT, 10/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures mostly nudged lower on Tuesday as President Donald Trump indicated he's willing to negotiate with Democrats to end the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were slightly in the red in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1%. The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 notched fresh all-time highs on Monday, while the Dow closed lower.
Trump told reporters on Monday that he is open to discussing healthcare subsidies with the Democrats in an attempt to reopen the federal government, according to Bloomberg News. The Senate on Monday rejected proposals to fund the federal government.
"I am happy to work with the Democrats on their failed healthcare policies, or anything else, but first they must allow our government to re-open," Trump said in a separate Monday post on social media.
The government shutdown started Wednesday after US lawmakers failed to agree on a key spending bill. The shutdown delayed the September jobs report last week, and is likely to postpone the international trade in goods and services report for August, which was originally scheduled to be released at 8:30 am ET.
"Without updated inflation and employment figures, in particular, the (Federal Open Market Committee) -- already fiercely divided between hawks and doves -- (is) more likely to remain on hold, waiting for additional information before potentially further compounding a policy error with a second-round rate cut," Stifel said in a Monday client note.
The Federal Reserve is scheduled to share minutes of its last policy meeting on Wednesday, with investors to assess them for any fresh insight into monetary policy.
Treasury yields moved up in premarket action, with the two-year rate inching 0.4 basis points higher to nearly 3.6% and the 10-year rate increasing 0.6 basis points to 4.17%.
Trump said in a Truth Social post Monday that the US will impose 25% tariffs on all medium and heavy-duty truck imports, effective Nov. 1.
Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is slated to speak at 10:05 am, while Governor Stephen Miran speaks at 10:45 am and later at 4:05 pm. Remarks from Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic and Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari are also due today.
Shares of Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) rose 4% pre-bell after closing the previous trading session up 24%, as the chipmaker agreed to deploy 6 gigawatts of its graphics processing units to power Microsoft ( MSFT ) -backed OpenAI's artificial intelligence infrastructure. Trilogy Metals ( TMQ ) soared 173% after the US government announced plans to take a 10% stake in the company.
Constellation Brands ( STZ ) inclined 3.3% as the Modelo brewer reported better-than-expected fiscal second-quarter results. Verizon Communications ( VZ ) rebounded 0.8% after finishing Monday with a 5.1% drop, as the telecommunications giant appointed Dan Schulman as its new chief executive.
McCormick ( MKC ) reports its latest financial results before the bell, while Penguin Solutions ( PENG ) posts earnings after the markets close.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil slipped 0.2% to $61.58 a barrel before the opening bell. Gold nudged up 0.2% to $3,984 per troy ounce, while bitcoin decreased 0.9% to $124,398.
