07:27 AM EDT, 06/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were mostly pointing higher on Tuesday as investors continue to monitor ongoing trade talks between the US and China, and await key inflation data due later in the week.
The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq edged up 0.1% each in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the red. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq finished Monday's trading session in the green, while the Dow was flat.
Discussions over trade between US and Chinese representatives are expected to resume Tuesday in the UK following the first round of negotiations on Monday, Bloomberg News reported, citing a US official. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters in London they had a "good meeting" with the Chinese delegation, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the discussions were "fruitful."
"We are doing well with China. China's not easy," President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday, according to Bloomberg. "I'm only getting good reports."
Previously, the two countries accused each other of violating their preliminary trade deal.
US Treasury yields moved down in premarket action, with the two-year rate decreasing 1.4 basis points to 3.99% and the 10-year rate slipping 3.4 basis points to 4.45%.
The consumer price index for last month is scheduled to be released on Wednesday. A Bloomberg-polled consensus indicates monthly growth for the metric remaining unchanged at 0.2%, while the annual reading is expected to increase to 2.5% from 2.3% in April. The official producer prices report for May is out on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the National Federation of Independent Business small business optimism index posted a 3-point increase for May to 98.8.
Shares of Casey's General Stores (CASY) jumped about 11% pre-bell after the convenience store operator issued an inside comparable sales growth outlook for fiscal 2026 higher than the previous year at the midpoint, while its fourth-quarter earnings surprisingly increased on an annual basis. Tesla (TSLA) gained 2.2% while Apple ( AAPL ) nudged down 0.1%.
Core & Main ( CNM ) , J.M. Smucker (SJM), Academy Sports and Outdoors (ASO) and United Natural Foods ( UNFI ) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. GameStop ( GME ) and GitLab ( GTLB ) post earnings after the markets close.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.3% to $65.5 a barrel before the opening bell. Gold slipped less than 0.1% to $3,354 per troy ounce, while bitcoin traded up 0.7% at $109,330.
