07:17 AM EDT, 10/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The main US stock measures were pointing higher in Wednesday's premarket activity as traders await the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates and the latest earnings from some of the biggest technology companies.
The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, the Nasdaq added 0.3% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the green before the opening bell. The indexes on Tuesday notched a third straight session of record highs.
The Fed is due to announce its latest monetary policy decision at 2 pm ET, with Chair Jerome Powell scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:30 pm. Markets are widely expecting the Federal Open Market Committee to lower its benchmark lending rate by 25 basis points, following a similar move last month, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
"The (Fed) emphasized the September move as an insurance cut and those normally occur in pairs," Oxford Economics said in a Tuesday note. "The (US federal) government shutdown has also left the central bank in a fog about the labor market, fueling support for another cut rather than risk falling behind and having to cut more later."
Treasury yields were trending upwards before the open, with the two-year rate rising by 1 basis point to 3.5% and the 10-year rate increasing 0.6 basis points to 3.99%.
The Senate on Tuesday was once again unable to pass a Republican-backed funding bill to end the ongoing shutdown, which entered its 29th day on Wednesday.
Wednesday's economic calendar also has the weekly mortgage applications bulletin at 7 am, followed by the pending home sales report for September at 10 am. The weekly EIA domestic petroleum inventories report is out at 10:30 am.
Technology giants Microsoft ( MSFT ) , Google ( GOOG ) parent Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Facebook and WhatsApp parent Meta Platforms ( META ) are expected to release their latest quarterly results after the markets close, along with coffee chain Starbucks ( SBUX ) . Apple ( AAPL ) and Amazon.com ( AMZN ) report their earnings on Thursday.
Caterpillar ( CAT ) , Boeing ( BA ) , Verizon Communications ( VZ ) , CVS Health ( CVS ) , GE HealthCare Technologies ( GEHC ) , Kraft Heinz ( KHC ) and Centene ( CNC ) are set to announce their financial statements before the bell, among others.
Shares of Nvidia ( NVDA ) inclined 3.6% pre-bell after closing Tuesday with a gain of nearly 5%. The tech bellwether agreed to invest $1 billion in Finnish telecommunications firm Nokia ( NOK ) , while the two companies announced collaborations to develop next-generation cellular technology and artificial intelligence networking solutions. Nokia's ( NOK ) US-listed stock fell 4.6% early Wednesday, after closing the previous trading session up 23%.
Visa (V) edged down 0.6% even though the payments processor reported better-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter results. Electronic Arts ( EA ) decreased 0.3% after its latest quarterly results.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil increased 0.4% to $60.37 a barrel in premarket action. Gold rose 1.4% to $4,039 per troy ounce, while bitcoin moved down 0.9% to $112,876.
