India's tea sector has been on a rolling boil as far as price and demand is concerned. Moreover, the coronavirus related lockdowns and excess rains in West Bengal and Assam have pushed production 18 percent lower for the first eight months of the calendar year. This has led to a surge in production costs and high labour wages.
As India is the second largest producer of tea in the world and fourth largest exporter, it remains to be seen how these hurdles can impact the sector on a whole.
