03:47 PM EDT, 04/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were higher ahead of Wednesday's close, buoyed by a post-earnings surge in Tesla's (TSLA) share price, as traders awaited Meta Platforms' ( META ) results.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq and the S&P 500 rose 0.1% each to 15,716.9 and 5,072.9, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1% to 38,485.4. Among sectors, consumer staples led the gainers, while industrials paced the decliners.
Tesla shares were up nearly 13% intraday, the best performer on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. The electric vehicle manufacturer said late Tuesday it planned to launch new models earlier than previously expected. The company's first-quarter results missed Wall Street's estimates.
The US 10-year yield rose 4.6 basis points to 4.64%, while the two-year rate advanced 2.2 basis points to 4.93%.
Facebook and Instagram parent Meta is scheduled to report its latest financial results after the closing bell, along with other major names such as International Business Machines ( IBM ) , ServiceNow ( NOW ) and Ford Motor ( F ) .
West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 0.5% to $82.93 per barrel.
