04:01 PM EDT, 08/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Major digital assets advanced Tuesday with bitcoin (BTC-USD) approaching the $57,000 level.

The CoinDesk Market Index, which tracks 134 digital assets, gained 6.8% in the past 24 hours. The Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 rose 1.1% each, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.9% following Monday's selloff.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD), the most popular cryptocurrency, soared 6.5% to $56,790 with a 24-hour trading volume of about $50.79 billion, down 52.2%, according to CoinMarketCap data.

Ethereum (ETH-USD), the second-largest digital asset, was 4.2% higher at $2,498.

BNB (BNB-USD), the third-largest digital asset by market value excluding stablecoins, advanced 6.9%, while Solana (SOL-USD), the fourth-largest, surged 14.6%.

XRP (XRP-USD) was up 7%, Cardano (ADA-USD) rose 7.5% and Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) added 4%.

The US 10-year Treasury yield closed at 3.886%, up from Monday's close of 3.777%, while the five-year yield closed at 3.729%, up from 3.622%.

The total market value of the cryptocurrency industry increased 6.8% in the past 24 hours to $2 trillion. Trading volume shrank about 54% to $111.5 billion.
