04:02 PM EDT, 08/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Most major digital assets rose Friday, with bitcoin (BTC-USD) reaching close to the $60,000 level.
The CoinDesk Market Index, which tracks 134 digital assets, gained 1.6% in the past 24 hours. The Nasdaq 100 was up 0.1%; the S&P 500 rose 0.2%; and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.3%.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD), the most popular cryptocurrency, soared 4.5% to $59,736 with a 24-hour trading volume of about $32.7 billion, up 1.2%, according to CoinMarketCap data.
The most popular cryptocurrency is on pace to conclude the week with a loss of about 1.4%.
Ethereum (ETH-USD), the second-largest digital asset, was 2.8% higher at $2,623.
BNB (BNB-USD), the third-largest digital asset by market value excluding stablecoins, advanced 1.7%, while Solana (SOL-USD), the fourth-largest, gained 0.7%.
XRP (XRP-USD) was up 1.8%, Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) added 1.9% and Cardano (ADA-USD) was up 2.6%.
The US 10-year Treasury yield closed at 3.888%, down from Thursday's close of 3.923%, while the five-year yield closed at 3.764%, down from 3.796%.
The total market value of the cryptocurrency industry increased 3.4% in the past 24 hours to $2.09 trillion. Trading volume rose 1.6% to $69.9 billion.
