12:56 PM EDT, 07/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Wall Street's major market averages were trading higher Monday afternoon, the first trading day after the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.
Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group ( DJT ) shares jumped past 33% in recent afternoon trading after Trump survived the attempted assassination during one of his campaign rallies in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
In earnings news, Goldman Sachs Group ( GS ) reported Q2 earnings Monday of $8.62 per diluted share, up from $3.08 a year earlier. Total net revenue, expressed as the sum of total noninterest income and net interest income, was $12.73 billion, up from $10.90 billion a year earlier. The company also said its board raised its quarterly dividend by 9% to $3 per common share, payable Sept. 27 to shareholders of record as of Aug. 30. Shares of Goldman Sachs ( GS ) were up 1.3%.
BlackRock ( BLK ) said that its Q2 adjusted earnings increased to $10.36 per diluted share from $9.28 and its revenue climbed to $4.81 billion from $4.46 billion a year earlier. Shares of BlackRock ( BLK ) were up 0.5%.
In other news, Edwards Lifesciences ( EW ) said it has exercised its option to acquire heart valve device maker Innovalve Bio Medical following its initial investment in 2017. Financial details were not disclosed. Shares of Edwards Lifesciences ( EW ) were down 1.3%.
Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) is in talks to acquire cybersecurity firm Wiz for around $23 billion, multiple news outlets reported Sunday, citing unnamed sources. The Wall Street Journal reported that the talks are in an advanced stage and a deal could be reached soon. The companies did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment. Shares of Alphabet were up 0.9%.
