Top Midday Stories: Trump Urges Iran to Reach Deal After Israel Attacks; Michigan June Consumer Sentiment Index Rises More Than Expected
Jun 13, 2025 9:09 AM

11:59 AM EDT, 06/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- All three major US stock indexes were down around midday Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling at least 1%, after Israel's military strikes on Iran's nuclear and military sites.

US President Donald Trump urged Iran to make a deal to avoid more "slaughter," but Iran's foreign ministry described the Israeli onslaught as a "declaration of war," according to AFP, and counter-attacked with a barrage of drones that Israel said it largely blocked.

The University of Michigan's preliminary consumer sentiment index rose to 60.5 in June from 52.2 in May, compared with expectations for a smaller increase to 53.6 in a survey compiled by Bloomberg.

US airline stocks were down following Israel's attack on Iran, with shares of American Airlines ( AAL ) down 3%, Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) 2.2% lower and United Airlines (UAL) down 2.8%.

Cruise operators were also affected, with Carnival (CCL) down 4.2%, Norwegian Cruise Line ( NCLH ) retreating 3% and Royal Caribbean (RCL) shares declining 1.8% in recent activity.

Adobe (ADBE) reported higher fiscal Q2 non-GAAP earnings and revenue, provided fiscal Q3 guidance of non-GAAP EPS of $5.15 to $5.20 on revenue of $5.88 billion to $5.93 billion, and raised its fiscal 2025 guidance for non-GAAP EPS and revenue.

Adobe shares were down 5.2% around midday Friday.

RH (RH) shares rose 12%, a day after the company said it swung to fiscal Q1 adjusted profit and posted higher revenue from a year earlier.

Boeing ( BA ) Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg is cancelling his trip to the Paris Airshow next week after an Air India 787 Dreamliner flight bound to London crashed in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday, multiple media outlets reported, citing a message from Ortberg to company staff.

GE Aerospace (GE) also postponed its investor day set for Tuesday and will gather a team to travel to India and analyze the data from the crashed airplane, reports said, citing the aircraft engine manufacturer. The crashed Air India flight was equipped with GE Aerospace engines, according to reports.

Neither Boeing ( BA ) nor GE Aerospace immediately responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment. Boeing's ( BA ) stock was down 1.7% in recent Friday trading, while GE Aerospace's stock was 1.3% lower.

Meta Platforms ( META ) has made a "significant" investment in Scale AI that values the company at more than $29 billion and expands their commercial partnership, Scale AI said late Thursday.

After its investment, Meta will hold a minority of Scale's outstanding equity, the company said without providing financial details. Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Meta is taking a 49% stake in Scale for $14.3 billion. Meta shares eased 0.1%.
