06:17 AM EDT, 10/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump said late Wednesday that he has instructed the Department of War to start testing nuclear weapons "on an equal basis."
Trump said, before a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, he took that decision "because of other countries' testing programs" for nuclear weapons.
"The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country," Trump said in his Truth Social post. "Russia is second, and China is a distant third," he said, while adding that China will be "even within 5 years."
Trump's post came after Russia recently disclosed it had conducted several tests of nuclear "superweapons," including an underwater drone, multiple news outlets reported.
"In terms of speed and operating depth, there is nothing like this unmanned vehicle anywhere in the world, and it's unlikely that anything similar will appear in the near future," Russian President Vladimir Putin was reported as saying on Wednesday.
