07:57 PM EDT, 06/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- President Donald Trump sought to calm tensions between Israel and Hezbollah as the US worked to keep Iran peace negotiations alive, though he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered differing accounts of efforts to curb the fighting in Lebanon, Bloomberg reported Monday.
Trump said Israel and Hezbollah had agreed not to attack each other following discussions involving both sides, and maintained that talks with Iran were continuing "at a rapid pace."
Iran, however, said it was suspending negotiations with the US amid the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.
Netanyahu struck a more cautious tone, saying Israel would refrain from striking targets in Beirut if Hezbollah halted attacks on Israeli cities, but stressed that military operations in southern Lebanon would continue.
The conflicting statements added to uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to end the regional conflict, now in its fourth month.
