TSX up 182 Points at Midday With Info Tech The Best Performer

12:07 PM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Toronto Stock Exchange is up 182 points at midday, with most sectors higher.

The best performers are info tech (+2.8%), led by gains in Celestica (CLS.TO) and Shopify (SHOP.TO), and miners (+1.3%), while healthcare is down (-0.3%).

U.S. President Donald Trump has said he is terminating trade talks with Canada in response to new anti-tariff ads from the Ontario government that features the voice of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan and are being shown in the United States.

CTV News noted that Prime Minister Mark Carney, In his first trip to Asia as Canada's prime minister, will face more pressure to expand trade in the region after Trump moved to terminate trade negotiations with Canada.

On Friday, Carney will depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the summit of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN).

The prime minister will then stop over in Singapore to meet with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong before participating in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in South Korea. The last leg of Carney's nine-day visit could result in bilateral meetings with U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping -- Canada's top two trading partners.

Government officials say that they are "pursuing" a one-on-one meeting with Xi on the sidelines of APEC in Gyeongju, It is a notable "revitalization" of the diplomatic relationship between Canada and China after concerns of foreign interference dominated headlines during Justin Trudeau's tenure.
