Upcoming Nvidia Earnings Stifle Investor Sentiment, Driving Muted Premarket Action for US Equity Futures

09:01 AM EDT, 08/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were nearly flat before Wednesday's opening bell as traders stayed on the sidelines ahead of quarterly earnings from chipmaker Nvidia ( NVDA ) .

The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures, S&P 500 future, and Nasdaq futures were all down around 0.1%.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) is scheduled to release its earnings report after the closing bell.

Oil prices were lower, with front-month global benchmarks North Sea Brent crude down 1.3% at $77.69 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude down 1.3% at $74.56 per barrel.

In other world markets, Japan's Nikkei closed 0.2% higher, Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended 1% lower, and China's Shanghai Composite finished 0.4% lower. Meanwhile, UK's FTSE 100 fell 0.2%, and Germany's DAX index rose 0.8% in Europe's early afternoon session.

In equities, shares of Kohl's (KSS) were 2% higher pre-bell after the company reported fiscal Q2 earnings that topped analysts' estimates and raised its fiscal year earnings guidance. Ambarella ( AMBA ) shares rose 19% after the company reported improved fiscal Q2 financial results. Waldencast ( WALD ) shares increased 12% after reporting a narrower Q2 loss on higher revenue.

On the losing side, J.M. Smucker (SJM) shares fell 4.7% after the company lowered its fiscal 2025 guidance. Patterson Companies ( PDCO ) shares retreated 8% after reporting lower fiscal Q1 financial results.
