U.S. Crude Oil Inventories Drop 6 Million Barrels in Week Ended Aug. 15, EIA Reports

05:47 AM EDT, 08/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- U.S. crude oil stocks fell by 6 million barrels to 420.7 million barrels in the week ended Aug. 15, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in its This Week in Petroleum report released on Wednesday.

Analysts expected a decrease of 1.8 million barrels, according to a Reuters poll.

Meanwhile, crude oil production increased by 27,000 barrels per day to 13.33 million b/d, the EIA reported.

Crude oil imports also rose 130,000 b/d to 6.38 million b/d, while crude oil exports gained 129,000 b/d to 3.49 million b/d, according to the agency.

Gasoline inventories dropped 2.7 million barrels to 223.6 million barrels. However, distillate stockpiles grew 2.3 million barrels to 116 million barrels, the EIA said.
