Wall Street is gearing up for what Tigress described as the most closely watched quarterly earnings of the season, due out after the market closes on Wednesday. Keurig Dr Pepper ( KDP ) agreed to acquire JDE Peet's for 15.7 billion euros ($18.37 billion) in cash, the companies announced. Shares of Keurig slumped over 8% intraday, the worst performer on the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq.

Tesla (TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk sued Apple ( AAPL ) and Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI on Monday in federal court in Texas for allegedly illegally conspiring to curb artificial intelligence competition, according to media reports.

"This latest filing is consistent with Mr. Musk's ongoing pattern of harassment," an OpenAI spokesperson told MT Newswires. Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Shares of Tesla rose more than 2% intraday, among the leaders on the Nasdaq.

Meanwhile, US Treasury yields rose after midday, with the 10-year yield up 2.7 basis points to 4.29% and the two-year rate 4.8 basis points higher at 3.74%.

The ICE US Dollar Index advanced 0.4% to 98.11.

In economic news, single-family home sales slid 0.6% sequentially to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 652,000 units in July, according to the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Bloomberg-polled consensus was for a 0.5% gain versus June's unrevised figure.

The Dallas Federal Reserve's monthly manufacturing index fell to a reading of minus 1.8 in August from 0.9 in July, compared with expectations for a smaller drop to a reading of minus 1.7 in a survey compiled by Bloomberg.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures jumped 2% to $64.96 a barrel.

President Donald Trump warned again on Friday that he would impose sanctions on Russia if no progress is made toward a peaceful settlement in Ukraine in two weeks, creating further uncertainty.

"President Trump renewed his threat to impose sanctions on Russia unless progress is made to reach a peace deal with Ukraine. He appeared to set a two-week deadline for President Vladimir Putin to show more willingness to end his invasion of Ukraine," said Daniel Hynes, senior commodity strategist at ANZ.

Silver futures fell 0.9% to $38.73.
