US Equity Indexes Scale New Peaks in Midday Trading Amid Earnings Flow, Corporate Actions

12:28 PM EDT, 10/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity indexes were up in midday trading on Tuesday after hitting fresh records amid a lift from quarterly earnings and corporate actions.

The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.5% to 23,747.23, after hitting a record 23,788.25 earlier in the session. The S&P 500 was up less than 0.1% to 6,880.26, also scaling a new peak of 6,897.74 intraday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.4% to 47,725.09, after posting an all-time high of 47,905.95 intraday.

Technology, consumer discretionary, and materials were the only gainers intraday. Utilities and real estate led the decliners.

In company news, PayPal ( PYPL ) lifted its full-year earnings outlook on Tuesday and announced a partnership with Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI to integrate its payment system within ChatGPT. Shares rose 11% intraday, the leader on the Nasdaq.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) plans to make a $1 billion equity investment in Nokia ( NOK ) to acquire a 2.9% stake in the Finnish company. Shares of Nokia ( NOK ) were up more than 19% at midday.

United Parcel Service ( UPS ) reported Q3 non-GAAP earnings fell from a year ago but still beat analysts' expectations. Its guidance for Q4 sales was above consensus. The company also said it realized $2.2 billion in cost savings over the course of nine months. Shares advanced 8.1% intraday, the biggest outperformer on the S&P 500.

Skyworks Solutions ( SWKS ) shares increased 12% intraday, the top gainer on the S&P 500, after posting preliminary fiscal Q4 results that exceeded analysts' estimates and announcing a merger agreement with Qorvo ( QRVO ) to create a $22 billion combined company.
