US Futures Trend Higher in Monday's Premarket Ahead of March Housing Data

08:15 AM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US stock futures are trending higher in Monday's premarket session ahead of the latest reading of the National Association of Home Builders' Housing Market Index, which rates the relative level of current and future single-family home sales.

The NAHB Housing Market Index is expected to remain unchanged at 48 for March after rising a better-than-expected four points in February.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 0.15%, S&P 500 futures were rising 0.70%, and Nasdaq futures were climbing 1.14% higher.

Oil prices were moving higher, with front-month global benchmarks Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate crude rising 0.5% and 0.4% respectively.

On the winning side, shares of Solidion Technology ( STI ) jumped 59% in premarket activity Monday after it said Friday that it signed a securities purchase deal with institutional investors for gross proceeds of approximately $3.9 million. 2Seventy bio (TSVT) shares surged 22% after it said the US Food and Drug Administration voted "positively" on its phase 3 study with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) to treat patients with triple-class exposed relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. And shares of Joann ( JOAN ) climbed 19% after it said it plans to file for bankruptcy and become a private company as soon as late April.

On the losing side, shares of Chijet Motor ( CJET ) tumbled 16% after advancing 52% on Friday. Biophytis ( BPTS ) shares fell 14%, following a 3% gain the previous session. And shares of B. Riley Financial ( RILY ) dropped 11% after Levi & Korsinsky filed a class action lawsuit against the company alleging securities fraud.

Indian equity benchmark indices are set to move up strongly on Monday after the government slashed the income tax rate for companies to 25.17 percent and offered a lower rate to 17.01 percent for new manufacturing firms to boost economic growth rate from a six-year low by incentivising investments to help create jobs.
