07:48 PM EDT, 06/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US military launched airstrikes against Iran on Tuesday after President Donald Trump vowed to respond to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
US Central Command said the strikes began at 5 p.m. ET at Trump's direction and described the operation as a "proportional response" to Iranian aggression.
The latest attacks add pressure to an already fragile ceasefire reached in April as the US and Iran continue negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz remains closed amid ongoing hostilities, keeping global energy prices elevated.
