06:38 PM EDT, 05/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- U.S. Central Command said U.S. forces intercepted "unprovoked" Iranian attacks and carried out "self-defense" strikes as three U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman on May 7.
CENTCOM said Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones and small boats targeting the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason, though no U.S. assets were struck.
The U.S. military said it eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities linked to the attacks, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations, and intelligence and surveillance nodes.
"CENTCOM does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces," the statement said.
