07:05 PM EDT, 05/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Republican opposition to President Donald Trump's Iran war effort intensified after four Republican senators joined Democrats in a 50-47 procedural vote advancing a resolution seeking to end hostilities, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy supported the measure for the first time after Trump-backed efforts ended his re-election bid, Bloomberg reported.
The vote does not immediately stop military operations, and the resolution would still require House approval and Trump's signature.
Trump said he held off on a planned Tuesday strike on Iran at the request of Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries but warned Tehran of "another big hit" if it does not reach a deal, Bloomberg reported.
