US Services Sector Gauge Falls While Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise

01:09 PM EDT, 04/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading higher. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.5%.

US benchmark stock indexes rose Wednesday afternoon as a closely monitored services gauge unexpectedly ticked down and as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reiterated the central bank's dependence on data in any potential policy easing.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 0.5% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) edged up 0.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 0.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude was up 0.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 0.7%. Natural gas was down 0.5% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) gained 0.1%.

Gold was up 1.4% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.7%. Silver was up 4.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) increased 3.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) decreased 1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 0.2%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.1% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was fractionally lower.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.7% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.
