US STOCKS SNAPSHOTS&P 500 opens at record high on retail sales data, chip stocks boost

Oct 17 (Reuters)

- Wall Street's main indexes jumped on Thursday, with the S&P 500 notching up a record high as an upbeat forecast from TSMC boosted semiconductor stocks, while a bigger-than-expected rise in September retail sales pointed to a strong U.S. consumer.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI rose 165.37 points, or 0.38%, to 43,243.07. The S&P 500 .SPX rose 33.1 points, or 0.57%, at the open to 5,875.62​, while the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC rose 170.1 points, or 0.93%, to 18,537.212 at the opening bell.
