US stock indices fell on Tuesday as markets await the Federal Reserves policy meeting, in addition to important data.
Later today, the Federal Reserve will start its two-day policy meeting, expected to hold interest rates unchanged.
Fed chair Jerome Powell is then expected to hold a press conference, and could provide clues on the future of US policies.
Investors also await crucial US inflation data later this week.
On trading, Dow Jones fell 0.7%, or 289 points as of 17:22 GMT to 38,579, while SP 500 fell 0.3%, or 17 points to 5343, as NASDAQ stabilized at 17,192.
