World Gold Council expects gold imports to be around 700-800 tonne this year
Jan 15, 2019 4:08 AM

The World Gold Council (WGC) on Tuesday expects gold imports to touch around 700-800 tonne this year.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, PR Somasundaram, managing director (India), said, "We are going to be coming now with the full year figure in next two weeks on gold imports."

However, Somasundaram said the trend seems to be a little muted this year as Indian gold prices are higher compared to global, which is coming down, "In 2016, we took several measures to improve transparency in the gold sector."
