An extremely rare diamond called the ‘Eternal Pink’ is hitting the auction block expected to sell for more than $35 million
Jan 18, 2024 7:37 PM

A spectacular 10.57-carat pink diamond, christened "The Eternal Pink," is set to make headlines in the auction world when it goes under the hammer in June, with a potential sale price that could exceed $35 million. Sotheby's has estimated this extraordinary gemstone to command the highest per carat price ever placed on any diamond or gemstone in history.

Before its momentous auction on June 8th in New York City, The Eternal Pink will embark on an international preview tour, visiting major cities including Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Geneva, offering collectors and enthusiasts a rare opportunity to witness its exceptional beauty firsthand.

Quig Brining, the head of jewelry for the Americas at Sotheby's, lauded The Eternal Pink as having "the most beautiful and concentrated shade of pink" he has encountered in his career. He likened the diamond's rarity to that of supreme masterpieces in art, asserting that it surpasses even the scarcity of works by renowned artists like Magritte or Warhol.

Pink diamonds are known to be among the rarest of all colored diamonds, with only 3% of those examined by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) exhibiting color qualities. Discovered four years ago in Botswana, The Eternal Pink stands out due to its remarkable intensity and clarity, which has been graded as "internally flawless," indicating no imperfections can be seen under magnification.

Sotheby's has set a conservative estimate of $35 million, translating to approximately $3.3 million per carat. However, recent sales trends suggest that this extraordinary diamond might fetch much more. In a benchmark sale last year, another pink diamond was sold in Hong Kong for a staggering $5.2 million per carat. Should The Eternal Pink achieve a similar rate, its final price tag could soar past $55 million, making it not just a record-breaker but also an extraordinary investment in natural beauty and rarity.
