Time to send Yogi back to mutt: Mayawati

BSP president Mayawati on Thursday said her party will form the government in the state and send Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath back to his mutt, alleging that he worked with a narrow and casteist mindset, and ignored Dalits, backwards and Muslims at every level. She also slammed a section of the media and accused it of bringing out exit polls in favour of the BJP and other rival parties of the BSP.

BJP Govt released funds to militants ahead of elections to influence Manipur polls: Jairam

AICC senior observer Jairam Ramesh Thursday accused the BJPled government in Manipur of paying Rs 15.70 crore to some banned militant groups under Suspension of Operations (SoO) to ensure the first phase of assembly elections in two districts on February 28 were not free, fair and peaceful. An additional amount of Rs 92,65, 950 was also released on March 1 to influence the elections in the second phase on March 5, he alleged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday alleged the Opposition is trying to divide society for votes at a time when India needs to be strong to deal with "serious challenges" the world faces. The possible reference to the war in Ukraine came during a poll meeting during which Modi also said the BJP's victory in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh election is necessary to ensure the state's journey on the path of development does not stop. "The time is coming up with serious challenges for the whole world. So your vote is making India strong to deal with these challenges. On one hand, there are those who are busy dividing society for votes even at such times, while on the other side there are BJP and our allies who are devoting themselves wholeheartedly in the development of the country," he said.

UP polls 6th phase: Around 47% polling till 3:00 PM

About 47 percent voting was recorded till 3 pm in the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls on Thursday. The prominent faces among the 676 candidates for 57 seats spread across 10 districts in this phase include Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur Urban and state Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu from Tamkuhi Raj. The voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Around 2.15 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase. So far, voting for 292 of the 403 Assembly seats has been completed. The final phase of the elections on the remaining 54 seats will be held on March 7.

Will form government in Uttarakhand with at least 40 seats: Mathuradutt Joshi

The Congress on Thursday said it is going to form the government in Uttarakhand claiming it will win at least 40 seats in the 70-member state assembly. ”We are getting a minimum 40 and a maximum of 48 seats in the state with over 42 percent vote share, 10 percent more than what we got in 2017 elections,” PCC general secretary (organization) Mathuradutt Joshi said here. Out of the 29 seats of the Kumaon region, the Congress will get at least 18 seats while it will also get a major chunk out of 30 seats located in three districts of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar, he claimed. #PTI

BJP 'influencing' Manipur polls by 'paying' banned rebel groups, accuses Congress

The Congress on Thursday accused the BJP government in Manipur of violating the model code of conduct to influence elections there after around Rs 17 crore was released to banned militant groups which are under suspension of operation agreement. Assembly elections are underway in Manipur and the second phase is slated on March 5. The first phase of polling was held on February 28. "In a shocking violation of the Model of Conduct the Union Home Ministry and BJP State Government in Manipur released Rs 15.7 crores on 1.2.22 and further Rs 92.7 lakhs on 1.3.22 to banned militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO). This has made a mockery of elections in 4 districts!" Ramesh said on Twitter. #PTI

- Yesterday when I was going to Ghat from airport, I saw some BJP workers, who have nothing else except hooliganism in their brains - stopping my vehicle. They hit my car with sticks and told me to go back. Then I realised that they're gone. Their (BJP) loss is imminent.

- I am not scared. I am not a coward. I am a fighter. I faced thrashings and bullets several times in my life. But I never bowed down. Yesterday when they were surrounding me, I got down from my car & faced them to see what they can do. They are cowards.

Jayant to join Akhilesh, Mamata for joint poll rally in Varanasi on March 3

RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary will be joining Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee for a joint poll rally in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Thursday. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), which is fighting the UP assembly elections in tie-up with Yadav's SP and is its major ally for western region of the state, made the announcement on social media Wednesday. The joint rally will be held in Airhe village in Harhua block of Varanasi 12 pm onwards, the RLD said. Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, goes to polls on March 7 during the seventh and last phase of assembly polls in UP. Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, had visited UP earlier on February 7-8 to hold a joint press conference with Yadav in Lucknow where she predicted SP's victory against the BJP, like her party had done in West Bengal state polls last year.

What's in a name? For three candidates in this Uttar Pradesh assembly election, being called Akhilesh Yadav might have helped them a bit in their fight. Besides the Samajwadi Party (SP) president, the Congress nominee from Bikapur, an independent from Gunnaur and the SP candidate from Mubarakpur also have the name Akhilesh Yadav, news agency PTI reported. "I am getting good support in my constituency. People feel sympathetic towards me. I had lost the 2017 polls by a very thin margin. But now, they want Akhilesh Yadav to win. People say as (SP chief) Akhilesh Yadav will be chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav should also be Mubarakpur's MLA," the SP candidate said.
