Big Deal: Digital taxation in India

Digital taxation is one of the aspects on which there is no uniform policy across the world and that could cause a lot of friction amongst the countries going forward, especially in post-COVID times when digitalisation is at a faster pace.

When we talk about the Indian context, the equalisation levy had raised a huge amount of hue and cry in the industry, in the start-up as well as the e-commerce world. With the US starting an investigation in ten countries including India when it comes to digital taxation, it has cast a shadow on equalisation level.

Mukesh Butani, managing partner at BMR Legal; TV Mohandas Pai, chairman at Manipal Universal and Saurabh Srivastava, former chairman of NASSCOM put all that into perspective and also crystal gazed into what is ahead for us.
