MP logs 7,430 new coronavirus cases, 9 deaths; active tally at 52,963

The COVID19 tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 9,88,533 on Thursday after detection of 7,430 new cases, marginally up from 7,359 a day ago, while the death toll increased to 10,639 after nine more patients succumbed to the infection in the state, a health department official said. The daily positivity rate (cases detected per 100 tests) reduced to 9.2 per cent from 9.4 on Wednesday, he said.

Tamil Nadu COVID-19 aggregate touches 33.87 lakh

Tamil Nadu on Thursday added 11,993 fresh infections to its COVID19 caseload, which touched 33,87,322, while 30 more fatalities took the toll to 37,666. Recoveries eclipsed new cases with 23,084 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours aggregating to 31,82,778 leaving 1,66,878 active infections, a medical bulletin said.

A comparatively younger population with an average age of 44 years has been infected more in this Covid wave, the government said on Thursday, highlighting there was significantly less use of drugs for treatment this time. COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh are dropping, leading to a significant reduction in the daily and weekly positivity rate, government data showed. Weekonweek, the COVID-19 positivity rate declined from 29.85 to 25.64 percent as on Wednesday while the average daily positivity rate too fell from 27.71 percent to 17.07 percent.

The Centre on Thursday said the districts having less than five percent Covid positivity rate can move in the direction of reopening schools but it is up to the state governments to take a call in this regard. Mumbai's COVID-19 cases again slip below 1,000-mark; 7 die, active tally at 7,601

Mumbai's daily coronavirus count again dropped below the 1,000mark as it reported 827 new COVID19 cases on Thursday, while seven more patients died due to the infection, the city civic body said. With these additions, the tally of coronavirus infections rose to 10,49,348, while the death toll increased to 16,647, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) bulletin said.

SII urges Mandaviya to reduce gap between 2nd, precaution dose of Covishield from 9 to 3 months

Serum Institute has urged Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to consider reducing the gap between the second and the precaution dose of Covishield from current nine months to three, in line with Centre's revised guidelines for officials on election duty, official sources said on Thursday. The Punebased firm also requested the minister to allow it to administer Covishield's precaution dose for all individuals aged above 18 years. In a letter to Mandaviya, Prakash Kumar Singh, director, Government and Regulatory Affairs at SII, is learnt to stated that the third dose of COVID19 vaccine is being administered within 6 months of the second dose in various countries and this schedule is giving very good results to control the infection, an official source said.

Delhi logs 2,668 new Covid cases, 13 more deaths; positivity rate down to 4.3%

Delhi on Thursday reported 2,668 fresh COVID19 cases and 13 more deaths, while the positivity rate dropped to 4.3 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,38,647 and the death toll climbed to 25,932, the latest health bulletin stated.
