Seeing 100% growth in fashion, home, personal and baby care categories, says Flipkart CEO
Oct 20, 2018 4:45 AM

It clearly seems to be raining deals in the online space. E-commerce biggies like Amazon and Flipkart are going all out to woo the consumer.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO of Flipkart in his first interview post the Walmart deal, discussed the Big Billion Sale and the company’s outlook going forward.

Krishnamurthy said that the sale response has been extremely positive. He said, “The sale this time is a five day sale period. We believe we will meet all our numbers, plus some by the fourth day.”

Speaking about the smartphone category, Krishnamurthy said that it has been the largest category in e-commerce in India especially from a GMV point of view.

“This year, while we have a clear market leadership in smartphones, we have a 70 percent plus market share in smartphones, but if you look at all the other categories like fashion, home, all the other lifestyle categories, categories related to women buyers including beauty care, baby care, toys, we are seeing more than 100 percent growth. So, while smartphones remain a meaningful category for Flipkart and for e-commerce in India, all the other categories are experiencing very strong growth right now,” he added.
