In the 2016 Assembly elections, Amta was won by Asit Mitra of CPIM.
Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Asit Mitra of INC.
In the 2016 assembly polls, Asit Mitra garnered 89149 votes, securing over 47.05 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 4504 votes.
In percentage terms, the victory margin was 2.38 percent.
The constituency polled 189571 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 79.9 percent.
The Amta constituency has a literacy level of 83.85 percent.
A total of 7 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
