In the 2016 Assembly elections, Avadi was won by K Pandiarajan of DMDK.
Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by S Abdul Rahim of AIADMK.
In the 2016 assembly polls, K Pandiarajan garnered 1,08,064 votes, securing over 39.92 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 1,395 votes.
In percentage terms, the victory margin was 0.52 percent.
The constituency polled 2,70,750 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 67.92 percent.
The Avadi constituency has a literacy level of 83.82 percent.
