Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Sundaram P.L of CPI.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Eswaran.S garnered 83006 votes, securing over 42.23 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 13104 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 6.67 percent.
