AAP leader Bhagwant Mann took oath Wednesday as Punjab chief minister at a ceremony thronged by tens of thousands of people in freedom fighter Bhagat Singh's village, where he promised to fight unemployment and corruption in the state. The work will start from today itself. We will not waste even a single day. We are already late by 70 years, he said at the public meeting at Khatkar Kalan village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. Later in the day, he assumed charge at his office in Chandigarh.

Highest number of undertrial prisoners in UP, Bihar, MP
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh have the highest number of undertrial prisoners lodged in jails among the states and union territories, Union Minister Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday. Rai said in Rajya Sabha that while Uttar Pradesh has 80,557 undertrial prisoners as of December 31, 2020, as many as 44,187 undertrial prisoners are in jails in Bihar followed by 31,712 prisoners in Madhya Pradesh.

Govt will implement Rs 7,500-crore scheme to tackle road accidents: Gadkari
India does not have a very good record on road accident front and registers the world's highest deaths due to it at 1.5 lakh every year, the government informed Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Replying to supplementary queries during Question Hour, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the government will soon implement a Rs 7,500crore scheme with the help of the World Bank to address the problem and reduce accident-prone and black spots on national and state highways.

SP leaders, supporters booked for obstructing govt vehicles outside counting centre in Ballia
A case has been registered against 11 Samajwadi Party members and 60 other "unnamed" people for allegedly forcibly stopping government vehicles near the gate of a counting centre here on March 9, police said on Wednesday. According to the incharge of Ballia city Kotwali, Bal Mukund Mishra, the SP leaders and their supporters have been booked for offences of spreading hatred, obstructing government work, rioting and threatening. On March 9, a day before the counting of votes, SP leaders and their supporters had ''stopped and checked'' government vehicles near the gate of the counting centre, he said, adding that police are investigating the case.

Govt considering to develop operating system: MoS IT
The government is considering developing an operating system as part of its efforts to push the design and innovation ecosystem in the electronics and IT sector, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that no funds have been allocated by the government to develop an Indian mobile operating system yet.

Cyber fraudsters siphon off over Rs 1.51 cr by hacking co-op bank's server
Cyber fraudsters stole over Rs 1.51 crore after hacking into the server of a cooperative bank at Dombivli city in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday. The server of the bank was hacked and the data was tampered with on March 12 by unidentified hackers who siphoned off Rs 1,51,96,854, police said in a release. A case was registered against unidentified persons under section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 65 of the Information Technology Act at Manpada police station under the Kalyan division. No arrest is made so far, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Congratulating Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann on taking oath as Punjab chief minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him that the Centre will work with his government for the state's growth. "Congratulations to Shri Bhagwant Mann Ji on taking oath as Punjab CM. Will work together for the growth of Punjab and welfare of the state's people," Modi tweeted. Mann was sworn in as the Punjab chief minister on Wednesday. Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mann in the swearing-in ceremony that took place at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
