In the 2016 Assembly elections, Burwan was won by Protima Rajak of RSP.Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Protima Rajak of INC.In the 2016 assembly polls, Protima Rajak garnered 55906 votes, securing over 36.89 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 15002 votes.In percentage terms, the victory margin was 9.9 percent.
The constituency polled 151697 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 78.03 percent.The Burwan constituency has a literacy level of 67.53 percent.A total of 7 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
