Congress unveils minimum income scheme, promises Rs 72,000 annually
Mar 25, 2019 6:17 AM

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said Congress will give Rs 72,000 annually to a family earning less than Rs 12,000 per month under the party's minimum income support scheme if voted to power in the 2019 general elections.

In the interim budget 2019-20, the Narendra Modi government announced the transfer of Rs 6,000 per year to 12 crore farmers holding cultivable land up to 2 hectare directly into their bank accounts from this year itself.

The final assault on poverty has begun, said Ganhdi, adding “We will wipe out poverty from the country.”

“It is an extremely powerful, ground-breaking and well-thought through the idea. We have consulted many economists on the scheme. We have studied the fiscal implications of the scheme,” said Gandhi. He also claimed that it will be the world's largest minimum income scheme

This is a developing story. Please check back for more details
