Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Sib Charan Basumatary of INC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Dipak Kumar Rabha garnered 79983 votes, securing over 49.97 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 28667 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 17.91 percent.

The constituency polled 160109 votes in the 2016 Assam assembly polls with a voter turnout of 87.76 percent.

The Dudhnai constituency has a literacy level of 68.67 percent.
