In the 2016 Assembly elections, Eranad was won by P.K Basheer of IUML.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by P.K.Basheer of MUL.

In the 2016 assembly polls, P.K Basheer garnered 69048 votes, securing over 50.83 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 12893 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 9.49 percent.

The constituency polled 135856 votes in the 2016 Kerala assembly polls with a voter turnout of 81.82 percent.

The Eranad constituency has a literacy level of 93.55 percent.

A total of 11 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
